Glossary of Georgian IT Terminology

Browse the GNOME Glossary Full version Without suggestions and OpenOffice.org Glossary Full version Without suggestions

In order to localize a product in Georgian language, it is very important have a Translation Memory which will automatically translate or suggest the appropriate Georgian term.

As Gakartuleba.org has launched some huge Georginization projects, all the linguists and l10n and IT experts are urged to join the creation of Glossary of Georgian IT Terms project.

Any user can check the current status of the projects and suggestions of the participants. The registered experts will be able to suggest their own translations and also offer optional comments. After the glossary collaboration period is over, the glossary will be converted to a Translation Memory and will be offered for use to all the l10n teams participating in Gakartuleba.org l10n projects. This will ensure that the team memebrs and l10n projects share a glossary of terms that have been reviewed and worked up by experts. As a result, the Georgian end users will not be confused by different Georgian verions of the same English term.

Currently we have two dictionary projects online. The first is called GNOME Glossary and includes the terms that are common in GNOME and other Desktop Environments. The second dictionary includes the terms from OpenOffice.org Glossary and can be used by localization teams of OpenOffice.org and other office suites.

Browsing the Glossaries and suggesting own translations
Please take a look at the Glossaries first. You will find the appropriate links above. You may choose to hide the suggestions from the project participants. The table shows the term ID, the English definition of the term, the term description (if available) in English and the initial Georgian translation. The last states if the Georgian translation has been finally approved by project memebrs. If you chose to display the suggestions of the Glossary project participants, the appropriate columnts will represent the suggested Georgian terms as well as comments of the authors.
Participating in the projects, commenting and suggesting new Georgian terms
The easiest way to participate in the glossary project in to have a look at the terms and Georgian equivalents and suggest your versions or comment suggested translations on our glossary forum. Please note that the forum should only be used for Georgian IT Glossary discussions. The sugestions on glossary forums will be monitored by Glossary Project participants.
Becoming the actual member of the Glossary Project
If you think you have enough qualifications in localization, Georgian language or IT field, have enough free time to review all the terms in the dictionary, as well as all the suggestions of the participants; suggest your own version on all the terms, participate on occasional [online] meetings of team memebrs and would like to become a memeber of Glossary Project team, please introduce yourself on our ka mailing list and you should receive a reply in a day or two.
Please note that normally it is enough to suggest the terms on our glossary forums and being the actual 'full time' memeber of the team can be very time-consuming.
